New 60 suburban

Just bought a 60 Suburban and had a few questions about some trim and extra parts in the back. Looks like the hood has been replaced with a 61. I have the emblems for the side of the hood (both apache and viking), but don't know what emblem is supposed to be in the front fenders. Notice the 4 holes.

Do the vents, vent grille, and cable control replace the manual vents in the kick panels? They currently has the handle that you reach down to open. Is this an option or does it not belong to this suburban?

Re: New 60 suburban

Because your suburban is a '60, the proper emblems for the fenders said "Chevrolet" with "Apache" underneath it and there was no hood emblems that year. Only '61's had hood emblems for "Apache".

As for the Vents, both 1960's I have owned had the cable release type set-up.

Welcome and great suburban! What are your overall plans?

Re: New 60 suburban

My overall plan is to restore the interior and body close to original style. I haven't identified the frame yet. It has a newer 3/4 ton 4x4 frame that has been spliced to fit. It has a 250 6cyl with a TH350. The power train will get an overdrive automatic transmission with either a small block or a 5.9 cummins. Can't decide on that yet. I'm starting to research what everything was painted(interior, wheels, trim, ect). Seems harder to find Suburban specific information.

My next step will be to take the frame out and clean/paint it. Paint the underside and the firewall. I need to wait for my other car (57 150 sedan) to sell before I have engine, tranny, and exterior paint money.

The floor boards and rockers are all solid, just clean and paint.

Welcome to the forum

The vents with the 'louvered' grills are standard for '60-'62 Trucks, Suburbans and Panels.

Re: New 60 suburban

The two holes in the hood fit an "Apache" emblem that came with the truck. I do think the hood is from a 61. I guess I need to see if the 60 emblem is in the fender while the 61 was on the hood. That might expalain it????

Here is the 57.

I have it at a consignment lot right now. http://www.gatewayclassiccars.com/di...9&location=STL
Should have sold by now. I think it underpriced. Of course, I might be biased!
