Friday fun

My project has been an interesting one. I've moved so slow that I never bothered putting together a build thread. Basically, by the time my truck is done, the only things that will be left from the original truck will be the vin, motor and rearend. I had to swap the frame when I found significant rust in the bend behind the cab. Cab had a lot of rust issues as well, so I found a good one. Anyway, a buddy wanted the frame for his project. He could use it because he's planning to back half it anyway. I had to get the cab off of the frame. Here's how we skinned that cat.

This cab will eventually be going to scrap.

Re: Friday fun

Yeah, it's hard to tell from the pics, but it basically needs a full floor, corners, rockers and the dreaded panel over the windshield. The floor has been patched using various pieces of random metal, some just overlapping the original floor "glued" in with silicone instead of welded. There's a whole cut in the center for a floor shifter. There's a hole the size of a grapefruit in the passenger left corner. The cab corners are homemade from sheetmetal braced with small angle pieces, and there's no inner rockers at all. Other than that it's cherry I've seen guys up north bring them back from this condition, but it's more than I want to tackle. I've actually got another cab in about the same condition. I'd sell you either one for cheap.

A couple of years ago I picked up a load of rust free parts from a '71 for $900. I'm building a '68 so I sold the fenders, core support and a bunch of other stuff. After it's all said and done, I have about $100 in a rust free cab.
