Big Red - finally get to use it!

Thought I'd share a picture of Big Red finally being used for the reason I bought it....to haul wood!

New sheet metal is on and the clutch has been replaced (pain in the arse!) but he's finally on the road.

I did not want to overload the bed since I was hauling this wood 30 miles away (mostly highway). I have plans to make some sides for the bed to carry more wood. This truck handled the weight even better than I thought...I hauled 6 loads like this and it never missed a beat.

Re: Big Red - finally get to use it!

You would be surprised at how much you can haul in these and they still handle good. I work for a tree guy and when his dump truck rolled over we used my 3/4 ton to haul a lot of the logs out. I had wood pilled up to the height of the roof on a regular basis with it and never had a problem. I usually had to take it up to the place where we dump the stuff at, which is up the mountain a little and the one part of the road is very steep and it never had a problem with that either.

trust me, I know....but I had some bumpy back roads before I got to the highway...I did not want to have to buy anyone a new windshield...

Once I get some side rails, then I'll really load it up.
