the time has come
for me to properly color change my interior. how do i remove the dash, or a better question waht should i look out for when removing it. I'm only pulling the seen exterior pieces. and also cleaning and reconstructing heater ductwork. cuz winters a comin.

I pulled out the dash on my 94 about 4 days ago and painted it and have it back in already. Taking out the dash was not all that hard. I wish I would have done a step by step to show others. If you remove the speakers you will find 2 screws underneath the covers. There are also about 12 screws on the bottom of the dash. On each side you will find a brakcet that hangs down that hangs on a threaded stud. Above those studs there are 2 large bolts. Behind the gauges after removing the cluster,heater control/ stereo you will fing about 8 more screws. There are also 2 rivets that need to be drilled out. They are also behind the cluster. You will see another rivet to the top left behind the cluster that does not need to be drilled out. Your duct work will come out with the dash so you will see other rivets behind the left/right ductwork vent and dont worry about drilling those out. Also behind the area where the cluster is there are 2 large bolts behind the dash that hold on the wire harness in place. Also there is a wire way that is right behind the harness that the cluster plugs into. You will have to also disconnect the emergency brake cable from behind the dash. That can be done after pulling the dash towards you just a little. I hope this helps the number of screws that I quoted are rough numbers. It was pretty easy once it was all said and done.

Oh yeah it was also easier by dropping the steering column. You will have to disconnect the knuckle/Ujoing under the hood and then there are 4 bolts holding the coulumn to the firewall. Then 2 more nuts holding the column to the bracket behind the dash. I took it out with the column in place but after realized that it would have been easier to remove the 2 large bolts holding the wire harness on the back of the dash. I lowered the column to put it all back and it was much easier. Check out my pics under the build fourm for "my 94 chevy cheyenne build". Let me know what you think and you will do just fine. Remember 1 bolt at a time.

Also when I disconect the knuckle should it be on jacks? What about the transmission linkage cable (automatic) should/ do I have to disconnect this? Thanks

I guess I keep saying knuckle but what I mean is where the steering column shaft joins the shaft from the gear box. I assume you know what I am talking about. I would hate for you to take more off then needed.

yeah I know what your talking about, boy there was alot of dust back behind there got it out painted and back in today. along with replacing the ductwork. I literally poured dirt out of the tubes, that sounds pretty healthy right? thanks for your help.

no, didn't figure it was neccesary I had already painted the dash (with it in the truck) last winter. there's no real change, It bothered me when sun would hit it and I could see the red shining through in some areas. didn't really wanna take picture of the TERRIBLE wiring job someone did behind the dash. (fixed that but forgot to mention it.)
