C10 daily drivers
Who here daily drives their c10? Im so tired of having to take my 06 silverado to a dealership everytime I get an electrical problem.. And each trip being 1k+... Im seriously considering selling it and getting a c10 to drive while my wife is still in school...Im trying to avoid car payments

I'm onboard for this. When i retired (LOL), I decided basically the same thing. Now that I've returned to work part-time, I drive my '70 stepper 300+ mi/week. It's currently my only ride. No payments, but I will admit to a lot of weekend time spent on upkeep.
. Years ago, my wife wanted an MGB. I told her she would have to take an auto-mechanics class at the local community college, 'cause I wasn't going to spend my weekends keeping her car on the road. Guess I'm eatin' those words.. . FYIW: My truck is a "survivor" farm truck - sat in a S.Ga. field for 17 yrs. |

How I figure it ill sell my 06 then find the best shape c10 I can find for cash from sale... Drive it until she gets her career going then once we get there I can start tearing into it... Im ok without all the modern comforts.. Except for ac lol... texas summers can get pretty bad.. Lol all I told her was if she buys the car on her own ill work on it.. Now shes looking at panther pink dusters...

1967 Short Stepper is a driver that is getting it done. I never have a problem with using old vehicles for daily drivers, I mean at one time they were just regular vehicles that were carrying people to work, school, and on vactaions. The newest vehicle I have used as a daily driver in the last 18 years was my 1974 C10 SWB. I have only had one late model car in my life (it was 3 years old when I bought it) and that was an 86 Monte Carlo SS (traded it for a 1971 Monte Carlo in 1994). My 68 Chevelle that has been driven hard on the road course and autocross has carried me to Florida from Cali and back.....twice. My only piece of advice to keep an old car as a driver, you must be able to do the work on them yourself and have to pay attention to all the things that vehicle is telling you. Hear a small noise, find it and fit it! Something looks strange, find out why and make necessary repairs! When these problems are small will make life a whole lot easier, you cannot put them off till the truck lands on its knees and then drop it off at the moron in the corner repair shop.

Drowe mine daily till i thor it down 327 700 r about 17 miles to the gallon have a blazer i drive dailey but the gas is not so good .

I have driven mine daily for the past 4 years. I have a supercharged 350 and a granny 3 speed and get around 18mpg with no reliability issues

My C10's are the only thing I drive. Except for my wife's Kia. Take the truck all over. And I can brag because my trucks never let me down. Never had to call a tow truck yet.

My K-10 is my dd. It burns a whole lotta gas, but there's no monthly payment and no requirement for full coverage insurance. I'm maybe going to sell it though, and get a nice C-10 for the few extra mpg. Maybe.

Man, if you want inspiration, go thru LFD's Low Buck daily driver build ..I went thru 40 some pages of his build ... he drives the wheels off that thing!

with the exception of an 18 month break, I've only owned 67 - 72 trucks since 97. My C/10 burb and C/30 longhorn are my two drivers.

Mine was driven daily until it went to the bodyshop for a frameoff restomodification and will return to daily driver status as soon as it comes home .I can drive a new 72 truck for a lot less than payments on a NEW truck and mine is paid for.

My wife has a new car, both mine are old, a lowered 69 C10 and a lifted 72 GMC 4 wheel drive. I honestly don't want a "new" truck, what for? My 72 is pretty much new anyway, I have replaced and rebuilt everything on it except the axles. I drive them every day.

My 72 is my daily driver. I think nothing of getting in it and driving a few hundred miles. I have AAA Premier and have used it several times. Once from San Luis Obispo, about 250 miles.

My truck has been my only vehicle and daily driver for a little over a year now. It requires a little more maintenance and it doesn't get great gas mileage but it's worth it. I enjoy being able to work on my own truck and not having any car payments either. After driving this truck daily I don't know if I'll ever be able to go back to a newer vehicle.
Only thing I regret is having to drive it through the winter. It's a 4x4 so no problems there, and I've driven it in -15F weather I just hate the salt that builds up on it...oh well, only way to avoid that would be to move south. |

I drive my '70 everyday. In all the years I've driven it, it's broken down on me once and failed to start another time. For over two years I was putting 130 miles on it per day, now only about 60. But she drives wonderfully, and I have no plans on selling. Maybe someday do a rebuild.

I searched for an older, non-computerized truck to replace my 95 GMC Jimmy because I could no longer trust its drivability. Found and bought a 1969 GMC Custom Camper-this truck puts a smile on my face everytime I drive her. Don't need no fancy diagnostic tools to troubleshoot engine problems if they should arise.

Mine isn't a true daily, but I do drive it often. Only reason I don't drive it every day is because it's THIRSTY
 . Not even a second thought to get in it and drive anywhere. Except maybe checking that I have a couple quarts of oil for longer trips (she burns a bit)
