Check out this old farm truck
A good buddy of mine bought an old horse farm from an elderly couple a few months back. In cleaning out the barn, he found this:
(my truck was the field service vehicle ) from the VIN, it's a '67 133" C-30 built at the Tarrytown plant - 10,000lbs GVW. Has all HD options and a pushbutton radio. Original 3 speed granny with PTO driven hydraulic dump. when he found it, it ran for a day and no dump - after that it wouldn't start anymore (has a crate 350 from the 70's). I went down this weekend to give it a checkup - removed and snaked the entire fuel line, cleaned filters, and a new pump and she fired right up! Then I reset the timing (was set at 26* base advance) and had it purring like a kitten. Moved on to the bed - where we added an entire gallon of hydraulic oil to the PTO pump and got the bed working properly. Then I removed about 60lbs of extra wiring, brackets and hardware associated with the non-functional plow and who knows what else. Then we put it to work! It's obvious that the truck was used HARD and not well cared for. My buddy doesn't really want to make a pretty truck out of it, but we're going to do what we can to make it into a fully functional, intact work truck. So stay tuned for periodic updates, hopefully first up is to replace the broken shackle and get the rear brakes working (disconnected for some reason, though all the lines are new?) - then a new set of non-split rims and tires, and hopefully find a donor cab/doghouse with a little less rust and fewer dents.

1001 uses for a truck like that around the farm. My buddy has a '68 GMC that is very similar.

Pretty cool! It even has that not so rare Fred Flintstone option it's nice to see some of them put back to work.

Re: Check out this old farm truck
What a great story. If that truck could talk, probably a lot of BS or would that be HS. Life goes on for the old work horse. I love it!

Re: Check out this old farm truck
That's a great old workhorse that can still earn it's keep. That would be a 4spd transmission. Granny is 1st gear.

Speaking of, though, the tranny has reverse down and to the left - what box is that, an SM420? I know my old SM465 was down and to the right, and it doesn't look quite right to be a 465.

Re: Check out this old farm truck
Yeah,SM420. You know,a lot of people call this trans a 3spd with a low gear. But,it's 4 fwd gears. Automakers made it more confusing when they started making shift knobs as L-1-2-3. I hear people refer to driving a gear low...like final drive is 3rd,but it's really 4th and you generally start off in 2nd. They changed the knobs and not the transmission. My '92 has an NV4500,which is a 5spd...1 underdrive/1 overdrive/3 in the middle. By the same logic people use calling the 4spds 3spds,I guess my '92 is also a 3spd with granny and overdrive...whatever,right?
