4L60E Grinding in 1st and 4th

My trans just started to grind when it is in 1st and 4th. Before the grinding, for about a week prior, it would slip between 1st and 2nd. Kinda like if you hold the clutch in too long then pop it in a manual trans car. The grinding happened tonight and I figured I just keep it in 3rd for my trip home and pray I don't have to stop at a stop light. I think I might need to do a rebuild now, but I'm praying hoping that it is just an easy fix cause the $ is tight around here now. The grinding is very bad in 1st and just an annoyance in 4th.

TIA,
The Rim

Any "Grinding" in an automatic trans is bad, its rebuild time.

Took it to the mechanic today... Planetary gears... Time to say sigh-a-nara to $1,900. Rebuild here I come!

$1900! Last year I lost reverse, and 1st gear and had this crazy loud screeching noise. Rebuild costed right under $1000. $1900 seems a little steep.

Yeah, I guess being in a small town means they can charge what they want... But hey, I'll be back on the road by Friday. Sucks that you can't get decent prices around here...

Well the parts alone were $800, the labor is what killed me... $1100... Man how I think I need to rethink this whole college thing and go into mechanic school...
