Horn not working

Hi All,

Took my steering wheel off to straighten it - really simple to do - then the horn didn't work. Aftermarket tilt column was installed by PO.

With the wheel OFF - In order to test it should the horn work by me pressing the small brass stud - number 2 in the photo below. Or is the ring I'm holding also required to touch to make the horn work - unfortunately neither situation works - but it will help me test the problem if it just the #2 stud I need to press.



It could not have been easier to get the wheel off and straighten it out - and I heard no springs pop or screws drop when it came off but no horn (I did reconnect the battery, the horn did work before). Thanks.

Pretty sure the ring needs to be on. Had the same problem before. I just can't rememember the solution. I do remember I played around with it and figured it out. There is a spring and plunger under that brass button and in the ring button also, I think.

Take a screw driver and short from the brass button to the steering column shaft. Pushing on it doesn't do anything. Yes the cancelling cam has to be on as well as the rest of the horn parts for it to work right.

Hey thanks...yes, it ended up working out in a combo of the two replies.

The basics of it is it needs the metal to metal contact (it's the negative cycle being completed here)- it's not just that something is pushed down (either number one or two in my photo). It turned out that it helped to pop the plunger out of #1 one in the photo and scrap it a bit and then put it back together. It was almost a little odd - as the first time I put it together was almost identical to the last time (It's not like I scrapped much out of the plunger) - but it worked the last time. I got the steering wheel straight too (which is sweet).
