few tank questions

i've noticed the left side tank is hanging down pretty low in the front, and neither filler neck is attached to the bed.

my brother (the previous owner) told me he suspects the left tank to be an aftermarket replacement. why, i have no idea.

i went out and took a few pics, but just what i could get without jacking the truck up. it appears the tank i solidly strapped in. i was unable to push it up by hand. am i missing something?

as for the filer necks, the left one clearly has no way to attach to the bed. and the hose is clearly kinked and gets worse if i actually put the filler neck in the fuel door.

the right one has a flange, but it does not appear as though it would be able to bolt to the bed. what am i missing with these two? it's difficult to even get gas to flow into the left tank. the right tank fills fine, but has a crack in it somewhere so i need to fix the left side

Re: few tank questions

sounds to me like this truck was pretty well best on from your other posts and this one. I would drop out that tank and see whats causing this. I have aftermarket tanks in mine and they fit like a glove. Is it possible the mount itself is bent?
If you need new straps or a tank both ate available at advanced auto parts and many others

Re: few tank questions

it actually looks like the frame itself behind the tank is bent. i don't know if that's the cause or not.

Re: few tank questions

the fuel fillers don't fit because they are for a pre79 with a twist on type cap through the bed type filler they changed to a screw on cap behind a door in 79

edit: the one without the flange is probably for a pre73 with in cab tank were a rubber grommet was used were it went through the cab

Re: few tank questions

And the housing that mounts in the bed I believe the type you need is on the left in the link http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/cc/full.aspx?Page=132
