Thumbs down Re: 88 vandura engine ID

That is a terrible motor to want to keep, let alone put it in something nice. It is a 350 wannabe !!! Put in a nice 350 with a rv cam, etc 300 plus horses and you will be alot happier. There was a 305 that was in a camaro that was built a little bit years ago but it couldn''''''t stand up to anything compared to the 350 itself.the 305 is a DOG>

flat tappet maybe 140 hp on its best day, AKA boat anchor. find a good roller 350 from a 87 up camaro or caprice.

Re: 88 vandura engine ID

It is definitely not a horsepower giant, but that doesn't mean it's junk. If it runs good, and the transmission shifts good, I would drop it in for sure. A nice set of duals and you'v got yourself a fine cruiser. If you feel froggy, slip in a 260 grind cam, an aluminum intake and a holley 600, and it might suprise you, and others. After all, it is still a small block chevy, not the best choice from the selection, but far from the worst for sure. I would roll it for sure.
