Anyone used the hydraulic power brakes system off of the power steering pump? How is it?

I will be as soon as I have my truck back together. Some of the members over at coloradok5 use it and say it works well.

Adam,
The system you are talking about is the HydoBoost system found on 1-ton and diesel applications (i.e, 6.2L diesels). I have several friends who have made this change and love it. They did have to make slight modifications to the brake rod that attaches to the pedal and to the mounting bracket at the firewall. I will be installing mine within the next two weeks. According to one mechanic I talked to, the Hydro-Boost delivers almost three times as much braking pressure as a normal vacuum assist system.
Also, I have checked AutoZone and Advance Auto which each has the Hydro-Boost units for close to the same money, only differences to watch for is the core charge rates. Basically, w/core charges, boosters run approx. $200+ and the M/C approx. $100+. Local scrapyards may have them on larger trucks and motor homes for less. Hope this helps, Trukman1

I have hydroboost brakes on my company truck. It's a 98 Dodge 3/4 ton 4x4 with a turbo Cummins diesel, and these brakes can bring this heavy truck to a stop in a really big hurry. The only bad thing about them is if you live where it gets very cold in the winter, such as here, you really have to work them on those cold mornings. They will freeze and start to whine like a dry power steering pump. Other than that, they are a bug bonus to have if you want fast stopping power

www.hydroboost.com has a kit out but its not listed on their site at this time I emaied them and they sent me some pics and the intstall instructions

adam, I went to Advance Auto today and ordered the booster and picked up the master cylinder. Since they price match their competitors I paid (prepaid order) $146.11 for the booster (plus core charge) and $24 for the master cylinder (again plus core charge). Core charges were around $69 if I remember right. Got tired of waiting to find one at the scrapyard while my truck sits. Besides, this way I know I get the right one. Will pick up booster tomorrow along with hoses and hopefully install everything this weekend. Will post results, as soon as I have it all together, to list any problems or modifications of this swap. what year truck did you get the hydroboost for?

and the hydroboost goes onto a plate and is reatined by a snap ring, you will probably need to fab that

I wonder if it could be modified to go under the dash, similar to Kugel Komponents, www.kugelkomponents.com.
