The c-notch bolts-in (or welds in) just above the center-line of the rear end axle tubes. You want to center the notches w/the rear end attached to the springs & up against the bottom of the frame rail.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

do you have to cut out the bed in order to do the cnotch with the flip kit on the rear end?

No cutting of the bed is necessary for up to 8" drops (flip-kit + dropped shackles). The c-notches do allow for more drop which in turn allows the rear end differential housing to get closer to the bottom of the bed floor (keep that in mind).

This would be for most 'common' bolt-in style c-notch kits (some could be different). Bell Tech, Western Chassis, DJM, & McGauhy's should not require cutting the floor.

Bolt-in or weld-in step notches will require cutting the floor.

Pull the cover and count gears. You will also see if there is a posi unit in it or not. Plus you can change the oil and make sure everything looks good.
