1982 k20 "4l80e" ?

OK so we all know that are trucks dont do good on gas. But I want to make it alittle better so I can drive it more so I was thinking of swaping in a 4L80E but I found a Transgo kit so I dont need the stand alone computer. But my ? is how much bigger is the 4L80 then my T400, like if i will need to have the drive shafts redone or not and trans mounts exc. I know i can run a 32 spline 208 so I need to figure out how many splines my 208 is idk if I can do this with it in the truck or not.

Any help would be great thanks alot.

I have looked at installing that trans in my burb also. The standalone ecms are not that expensive. And with the transgo kit you will have to shif every gear manually. With the computer you can program the shift points you want to save on gas and not have to shift manually. You also dont have to do any programing with the ez-tcu if you dont want to. Seems like a 700r4 would be easyer swap then puting a 4l80 if all you are looking for is mpgs.

Link that may have length info you need.

Re: 1982 k20 "4l80e" ?

Well mpg's are something im looking for but it is my tow vehicle since I sold my Diesel.
So thats why I was thinking of the 4L80 instead of the 700R4. I have had 700's before and towed with them alot, so im not afraid of them I dont know why so many people think they are weak. stock I can see but mine have never been stock. So i guess I could go that way if the 4L80 would be a real pain in the butt.

85burb-Thanks for the link

Re: 1982 k20 "4l80e" ?

I have a pretty stout 700R4 it has lived behind my LQ4 with many beatings. Would not tow with it tho in 4th. I want a 4l80 cause first gear is different and i am not a huge fan of the tv cable. I like to push button and tell it how hard and when to shift. When the 700R4 dies i will get a 4l80e.
