1965 spotlight question
I am in the process of trying to mount a NOS spotlight kit on my truck.
When i put the template where it is to go it looks like when i drill the hole it is going to come out partially in the dash and the pillar? I dont know if that is correct place for it to exit. Does anyone have an interior picture of a mounted spotlight? I have attached a pic of the pattern where i think it is supposed to go. At the right side of the pattern it says "Place in bottom of drain trough" Any ideas where that is? Thanks for any help. |

Re: 1965 spotlight question
I have the brackets LFT & RHT, could you make a copy of the template? I believe it exits through the face of the dash. Gave the Custom Installation Book away when I sold my 64.
There's a body line between the pillar and cowl, if you place the bracket there you'll see that it fits quite nicely. The trough is the folded over section that runs down the pillar.

Re: 1965 spotlight question
on my 65 the inner hole is half through the dash, and half through the side pillar.. can't get a pic today, but might have one for you tomorrow.
as far as I know it was a factory spot.

Re: 1965 spotlight question
luckily I found a spot for mine, because to correctly patch mine up I would have had to pull the dash to fix both pieces.

Re: 1965 spotlight question
Thats why i am so nervous about drilling this hole! I would be less troubling to me if everything wasn't just painted and ready to reassemble. Hate to screw up now! If you need a copy of my pattern let me know.

Re: 1965 spotlight question
Post #5 on the following thread indicates Chris6499 has spotlights on his 64. Perhaps you can shoot him a PM and see if he has some detail photos of the inside.
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...ight=spotlight Entry #31 on the following thread shows the holes in a 64-66 with the light removed. I appears it does split half way between the post and the dash on the inside: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...otlight&page=2 And here's an example of someone doing their own thing: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...ight=spotlight Last edited by markeb01; 11-16-2010 at 11:44 PM. |

Re: 1965 spotlight question
Hello nhtc33d,
I must say I was very relieved to see there was someone else out there that had the same questions I have with installing a spotlight on a 64-66 Chevy truck. I have a spotlight kit however it is missing the mounting template. I was also concerned about where the hole would come through the inside near the dash board. I'm sure I could line it up and get close but I'm afraid of mis-drilling the holes.... Would it be possible if you could scan the template and send to me? I would greatly appreciate it. Carl |

Re: 1965 spotlight question
Easiest solution would be to contact Bob @ Accessoryland in Iowa. His phone number is 563.556.5482. He is very knowledgeable and has inventory on almost everything ever made for Unity spotlights. I believe he is also the only vintage Unity dealer with access to the Unity factory inventory.
