If the windshield is gone, broken or if the salvage yard don't mind removing it, and you decide to remove the whole dash, go to NAPA or similar and buy a spot weld removing drill bit. Saves a whole lot of time and effort.

Just as an additional fyi:

Most placed don't have electrical connections outside so take an 18 vdc or higher nicad or lithium ion (better) drill with a new or well charged battery and a spare. Nothing like winding up with a discharged battery and job not finished.
