I am close to assembling the 700R4 NP205 setup into the 67' 3/4 ton. The 205 is from a 75' and does NOT have the mounting holes in the end of the case to accomodate the L-bracket that my T221 used.

I have spoken with several 4WD "enthusiasts" locally and one professional and they all seem to agree that it is unnessesary and most of the late trucks with the 205 only were supported by the trans to case adapter. Which explains the lack of mounting holes.

I obviously have the facilities to machine it correctly,but is it necessary for a vehicle that see's very limited "abuse"?

They are so heavy that if I had the ability, I'd machine it and add some support. Maybe it's not necessary, I don't know, but would give peace of mind.

Agreed Jack and I most likely will but I was looking for someone who has the non-supported setup for definitive feedback.

Tough question because I believe all 205's in our era of truck were bolted to the frame.

Correct, that much we know. But obviously Chevrolet decided at one point that the side support was no longer necessary. So the question stands....who's running without one in our trucks? ( or other trucks)

Actually, I have heard a lot of guys (on ColoradoK5.com) that don't have the extra bracket. My understanding was that that was hit or miss on the NP205. The NP203 had some long rods that connected to the transmission for extra support. I have also seen some NP205s (not sure what truck they were in) with 2 cross members. One under the adapter and one under the rear of the t-case.

Well, I wish I could give you the answer you're looking for, but I can't. My 205 t-case came out of a 78 and was not drilled for the torque mount either but I drilled and tapped it before it went into my 67. As Yukon said, that's a lot of weight hanging out the back, that extra support gives me piece of mind. The stories I have heard about broken t-case adapters is what motivated me to hang the torque mount.

make the arangements to put that support bracket to the frame an your truck, I took mine off once and went out puddle jumping, the transmisson and t-case bounced around under there, I looked to see if anything else was loose and evrything was tite. After putting the bracket back on it stoped hoping around. Just my .02 cents. Landon

There is a definite benefit to having the side support in place if you have to pull the engine. The transmission is nicely supported!

We would not run without the support in our (6) 4x4's as I agree with Jack on the weight. We also had a truck without the brace in place and the transfer case moved when pulling trailers, (not a lot).

anyone got a pic of this? i dont think my truck has it (you can feel hoping sometimes when in a hard pull, i thought maybe bad bushings)
