I need some help indentifying this rear end in a frame I just picked up today. It is a GM rear with 12 bolts on the rear cover (i have not removed yet).

Re: Rear End Indentification Help

regardless of what the numbers say, it "could" have different gears in it. I'd pop the back off and count them. You could narrow things down even further if you can't find anything on the numbers and give us the width as well.

It does kinda look like one but the 12 bolt truck rears are smaller. I was told by a guy at a car show years ago that these rears will pretty much bolt right in. It looks like he was right.

Re: Rear End Indentification Help

this is the rear i have in my truck and its not a dana. Its a 12 bolt truck 73 - 87. Car 12 bolts are smaller looking and have a different rear cover.

Re: Rear End Indentification Help

Both 10 bolt and 12 bolt GM rears are a perfect fit for the AD.

Re: Rear End Indentification Help

Looks similar to the 12 bolt rear I pulled out of an 88 GMC 4WD tht I put in my 56 GMC.
But mine had the wider spring pads so I had to modify it a bit to bolt it in.
