Project '78... million pieces lol
Well, I decided id just go ahead and make this build thread now. That way all my stupid questions can be asked in one spot lol
Of course you all remember my little trash hauler Over the last few years or so Ive collected a few parts. Not all these are installed yet, but they're getting there. - bucket seats and a console. Console has a few cracks to patch, and needs painted so its not in yet. The seats brackets are welded in and the seats are mounted temporarily. I say temp because I still need to carpet the floor and have the seats covered. - Ive replaced both doors, still need to replace a hinge on one side, but I do have spares on hand. Not Installed: - stepsides bed. The bed is in about 6 out of 10 condition. Not looking forward to the amount of work in that one lol Back burnered until absolutely necessary or until a better deal comes along. - 73\74 grill and appropriate brackets. - New to me, but rust free inner fenders - One new fender and one "ok" fender off a parts truck. Still thinking of poping for a new fender for the other side or getting a better used one. The "ok" one looks well... ok, but next to the new fender it shows its age. - all interior trim. Over the last few weeks Ive got them scuffed and painted black. - plastic dash cap. I picked it up as part of a cl deal. It needs a little repair and paint, but it should be serviceable. Also, a while back, the motor went boom. I do mean a good while too... probably around christmas 2008. At the end of November 09 picked up a Gm replacement motor #10066036. Bought it off a fella in the next town with about 65k miles on it. It was in a nice early 70s model pickup. Here's a link to the specs on the motor: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/in...6123256AAnSD9o Its slowly coming together as well. To start with it seems like a pretty solid little motor, and a definite improvement over stock. From what Ive read up on it, a new intake and carb and a set of headers really does alot for it. So, at the spring autofair, I picked up a holley 670 carb and edelbrock torquer 2 intake. Im not completely sold on the intake.. but it was a good price. Ive heard alot more good reports from people with RPM performer intakes though. I really dont know which way Ill end up, but hopefully this one will do a bit better on this motor than the stock boat anchor. I think the carbs a little big as well, but I should be able to tone it down a bit if need be. I guess that about some it up. Ive rambled enough. The project for this week is to find a set of headers. Cl here I come lol. Anyhow, Ill try to update this thread as progress is made and Ill snap some pics sometime this week of what has already been done.

Got the new intake, carb, and air cleaner on today. Only problem Ive run into is the need for a new dual feed line. Guess Ill pick that up and the plugs and filters for a tune up tomorrow. Hopefully at the end of the day it will be no less ugly, but closer to the 300 hp mark.

Re: Project '78... million pieces lol
still havent gotten around to getting it to crank without help. Its busy around here. The wedding is in 36 days...so yeah, its getting down to the wire. I did get the dash cap painted decently this week though. Thats some progress.
I had two questions. Does anyone have any how to's about adding interior trim to a truck that previously didnt have it? I got all my junkyard trim painted up nicely a week or two ago, I just havent put it on for lack of a good tutorial. Secondly, I was considering paint. I know thats a long ways off still, but its good to keep the goal in mind. Since this is going to be a usable, drivable, fun vehicle, what is a good low maintenance color? I really wanted to go with black or Carolina blue, but it seems like they will be to easily dinged and really show dirt. I want something that will be a nice truck, but not something I have to fuss over all the time.

Re: Project '78... million pieces lol
wow. I didnt realize it had been a year and a half since this post was updated. Alot has gone on in that time. Not enough to finish this yet, but making a dent in it.
- New doors and fenders - 73\74 grill - New exhaust, 2.25 inch pipes and glasspacks - resolved the timing issue. It fires after one pat of the gas every time. Theres still a few things on the to do list That pesky interior is still not quite settled The rockers and cab corners need done I have the stepsides bed that needs switched over I want to take the exhaust all the way out the back (right now it stops before the rear axle) The lowering still needs to happen. I plan on following Keiths outline from the drop thread. Ill post up some new pics and videos in the next day or two.
