Got my truck back from the paintshop, had interior/exterior done. He got a little overspray on the chrome around the gauges and on the instrument panel lense(factory dash). Any suggestions on how to get it off without scratching?

Pics to come soon, gotta finish interior this weekend...

How fresh is the overspray? If the paint was sprayed w/in 24 hrs it could be rubbed off with acetone. If its fully cured it will be tougher. Hold a rag soaked with acetone on the area and the paint might soften up after 15 minutes. There are stronger solvents like MEK (methyl-ethyl ketone) that might work but it can be dangerous stuff.

The autobody uses a product called "gun wash", it's used to clean their spray guns of course. I use it all the time to clean up overspray.

I don't think you want to put any solvenst on the lens. Probably not on the chrome either. Why not try a clay bar? It's non-abrasive, and has to be safer than any solvents...

for getting overspray off chrome....use # 0000 steel wool. Can be bought at the Home Depot in the paint section. #00 is rated for polishing metals, but 0000 is much finer. Good luck.

i agree with n2trux. you would be amazed at how the detailing clay removes surface contaminants including overspray. i love it.

Thanks for the responses...I had a clay bar that I forgot about, took guage panel apart, cleaned everything, then used the clay bar on the lense and chrome around guages...looks new again! Thanks again!!!

You can get them at any parts store where the waxes are.It is a clay bar and some spray lubricant.It will remove contaminents on your paint.You will be amazed at the dirt that comes off your paint.The wax job will look real good if you use the clay first.

Clay bar's kick a$$!!! I just discovered this trick about 2 months ago. It took me several hours to go around my Camaro the first time, but now I just use it for touch up when the finish feels rough.
