New to AD Trucks and L6 Motors...

I just purchased my first AD Chevy Truck and I am excited as a 5 year old in chirstmas......

I am just having a hard time with finding the right engine whether i want a 250 or 235 from another truck or what I certainly don't want another V-8 truck. I really would like to cruise on a BUDGET...... Heck I dont even intend to paint this one.

looks like a fun project, what are the plans so far?
I am set up to run a Pontiac 400 and m21 Muncie 4 speed or turbo 400 with a 8.5 10bolt rear with triangulated 4 link suspension.

Re: New to AD Trucks and L6 Motors...

For right now I would really like to keep it a budget build. I would like to run a inline six. I really like the novalty of the inline motors. I also intend to run a T-5 trans and an updated open rear end. Currently I'm just trying to figure out which donor cars or trucks to take them from to best fit my truck with not too many mods. I'm also looking for some of the missing trim and locating a wiring harness. Still not sure if I should replace the glass with new or just replace with used to stay within in budget.

Re: New to AD Trucks and L6 Motors...

For a fun budget build look for a mid 60's 292 six, a saginaw 4 speed (cheap, plentiful and strong enough for a six) and a Camaro/Nova rear. Lots of these had 2.73 gears for easy cruising. A disc brake conversion will get you a 5x4.75 bolt pattern on all four so wheels will be easy to find. I put a 283 and SM465 in my '53 but the above combination would have been Plan B. I have a Saginaw 4 speed that may replace the SM465 some day.

Re: New to AD Trucks and L6 Motors...

I actually do have a 292 motor but it's in my 63 C10 I'm selling. It needs to go with truck running. I leaning towards buying a 59 235 truck motor since it's straight shot at fitting. For now,I was thinking of later install a T-5 and a S-10 rear end. I just don't like the ideal of running 6 lug up front and 5 lug out back. It seems to me getting a nice set of wheels would be harder unless, I purchase a new set from a vintage wheel vendor. Options ....

I may be able to get the emblems that go on the side of the hood for this truck if interested...
