My '64 (Big red)
I have lurked here for a while now mostly spending time being inspired by the many project builds. I have had a plate full myself for the last couple years but the full plate is far from auto related. I have been spending my weekends building a vacation home and it has not left me any time for my auto interests. I was introduced to this site by a GTO aquaintence and have spent way too many hours reading and looking at pictures. The good part of that is that it has gotten me out this weekend (yes a much needed break from the house building project) to pull the ol' '64out of hiding and get some work done.
I thought I would sart a project or build thread but it is far from what you are all used to here. Basically, It is more of a where I am at and ...well maybe something to keep me motivated.

Re: My '64 (Big red)
Here is a link to the same truck and some work I've done on my cardomain page.
http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2317816/1 I want to get the cab cleaned up and painted before installing the newly upholstered seat. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2317816/2 a couple cleanup shots today make me happy to see what good condition everything is still in after 46 years. They dont build them like THIS anymore! Anyway, Thanks for all those who Have posted progress of their trucks here. You have helped me spend many hours of time in front of the computer but you are also responsible for lighting a very large fire under my arse. I am again excited to get some things done on this fine ol' truck. Scott (looking forward to many more hours of inspirations reading on this site)

Re: My '64 (Big red)
I pressure washed the wood bed today. I also took a brush and a bleach mixture and scrubed a little before a second pressure washing, or more like a rinse. The wood came out looking much better! I was thinking of treating it with some teak oil or somthing. I would like to continue to preserve this orignal wood. Any recommendations on what I should use to treat the wood?

Re: My '64 (Big red)
Your truck is real nice overall, but that bed is just unbelieveably nice.

Re: My '64 (Big red)
Wow. I just stumbled upon your thread. Super nice '64 C20. I recently did the same to the bed in my '66 C20 Custom Camper. Here are a few photos of the finished product. We used oil-base primer (Zinnser) and two coats of oil-base satin black paint (Rustoleum).

Re: My '64 (Big red)
I love your '64 C20. I have one that could be her twin. Have you considered putting on era-correct factory dog dish hub caps? They look like this.
I couldn't resist attaching a photo of OLRED66, my '66 Chevy C20 Custom Camper. |

Re: My '64 (Big red)
Thanks for the comments! We think the ol' girl is great too!
I would love some period correct hudcaps. Will those fit 16" rims and clear the rear axle? I've read somewhere that the factory applied a pine tar or a creosote like product (black) to the bed wood. I wonder if every plant was the same though. I can see remnants of red body colored paint still visible on the metal bed strips....? Custom camper? I thought "camper" was a "ford" thing....I have tons to learn! LILRED66, that is a beautiful truck!

Re: My '64 (Big red)
I've been working on the wifes car while she has been driving my truck around. So I have been commuting in the '64 for the last couple weeks. Driving the C20 has prompted me to fix a few things. In the last two weeks I've replaced the dimmer switch and light switch, rebuilt the carb, I removed the dash to lube the Odometer and painted the trim while I was at it. I found a leak in the radiator, the new one should be in by Monday or Tuesday. Anyway, I just thought I would post a couple pics.
