Console Worth Saving/Fixing?

I have a seatbelt console that I got with some other stuff awhile back. I didn't know if it was worth saving or fixing. Where can I get parts if it is. The ashtray is missing, the crome ring is rusty as well as the plate around the holes, and there is a pretty big chunk missing from the passenger side on the upper portion. The bottom of the console is great, no cracks or damage.

most people on this site will tell you save it. They most often want to save everything. Is it worth your time and effort? Can you find another quicker/easier/cheaper? You can often find them in the for sale section so they're not super hard to find. It's your decision.

To me its worth keeping, sooner or later another one will come along that has the parts you need. the ashtray is available, and the plate is also available, the chrome ring is not.
You could get a small fiberglass repair kit and give a shot at fixing it, the good thing that were yours is damaged is mostly hidded by the seat when installed.

Definitely saveable

If you didn't want it, at least the hinge, the strap, and the emblem are worth saving/selling as well as the bottom of it. I restore them in that condition. If the ring can't be brought back, I sand it and prime/paint it. As mentioned, you can get a new plate and ashtray.

If the ring isn't too bad try some 0000 steel wool. Just don't press too hard on it and go around it quite a few times. I have saved some pretty tacky looking pieces doing this.

bead blast the chrome ring and then clear coat it. While it isn't chrome, it still looks good.

Re: Console Worth Saving/Fixing?

I'd fix it and if it didn't come out good it has most parts to combine with another. Some people are asking crazy money just for used consoles not restored,so I'd think t still has a value.

Re: Console Worth Saving/Fixing?

For the chrome ring you could try a product we used to use on spoke motorcyle rims that were rusty. Its called Classic Cloth, maybe spelled funny can't remember, but its a polishing rag with a compound in it that does wonders for light rust.

The chrome trim ring looks like some 0000 steel wool would help it out. The ashtray and bezel can be bought new. You can epoxy that damage, and as stated it will mostly be hidden by the seat.

Re: Console Worth Saving/Fixing?

Thanks for all of the info. I will probably hold on to it, and try to at least make it a decent driver quality console.
