Intake manifold repair
Hello,
I am planning to install a heli coil in one of the carb stud holes and I am needing some info. 1.) What size heli coil do I need to install? 2.) Where can I typically find them? Auto parts store? Harbor Freight? Thanks. On a side note, since having tips installed on the mufflers and the interior no longer has a drone to it, I hear something making a tapping noise that is in time with the engine. Can't hear the noise in the engine bay. I am hoping it is something loose in the dash, but I am concerned otherwise. Any ideas? Thanks.

Re: Intake manifold repair
what kind carb..which hole's?
If it's a eddy or tha back holes on a Q-jet you can JB weld a extra long bolt with tha head cut off & use a nut to hold it down..

Re: Intake manifold repair
Edelbrock intake and carb. It the front left hole looking towards the truck. I bought new studs, the one hole is slightly too big due to PO using a slightly larger bolt. There is enough thread for the bolt to thread into, just not hold it down. Which JB Weld can I use?
Thanks! Edit> This is good up to 600 degrees. Good enough? http://www.autozone.com/autozone/acc...er=522961_0_0_ Will I want to fill the hole partially or liberally coat the portion of the stud that goes into the hole? Thanks.

Re: Intake manifold repair
You need a 5/16 heli-coil kit. You can buy them at the parts store. Takes about 5 minutes to install one.
Do it right. Forget the JB Weld.

Unless you wanna drill out tha hole to a bigger size & use a helicoil, but being it's a stud & it will never have to come back out..why do tha extra work..

Re: Intake manifold repair
My daughter bought a car that had a stripped headbolt hole repaired by some idiot with a tube of JB Weld. It held together long enough to drive home before letting go. I wound up doing the helicoil thing to fix it. Do it once and do it right.

Re: Intake manifold repair
JB weld is only good for getting you out of the woods. please fix it correctly. JB weld expands and contracts at different rates than metal meaning it will let go at some point. Its not a miracle in a tube and doesn't belong on an engine.

Re: Intake manifold repair
Don't worry, I'm getting the heli coil kit as soon as I get paid. I want it right as well.
