Electric window options?

I would really like to upgrade to electric windows in my 72, especially the rear 2 windows so I can open them from the driver seat while I am driving. I have seen the kit sold by Brothers Trucks, but it is a bit more pricey than I would like to spend.....
Has anyone tried to retrofit power windows from some other vehicle AKA junkyard parts? Surely something out there must work with some modifications?

I searched for some time and came up empty......

Re: Electric window options?

I tried the cheap generic kits that attach to the stock regulator. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ELI-4101-09-S98/
Works ok, but not great, and you have to hack up the door to get them to fit. I know have these front and rear. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ELI-GM49-K/
Twice the money but well worth it. I never tried anything OEM for a different vehicle so can't say there.

Re: Electric window options?

Id like to know about using late model parts too. I do see the mechanics of motor and drive being problem. I have acces to a few late model junker that i can get parts for nothing or close to it .
I don't mind paying for quality part but never upset if saving bunch with some work.

Re: Electric window options?

^^ agree.

those kits seem like too much for my taste. i would rather pick a junk yard and try to find something to work!

Really no tricks or pointers needed if using the model specific kit (what I'm using). They bolt in exactly like the stock ones. Just have to run the wires into the door and you're all set. Not counting the wiring, it's about a 5 minute swap.

Re: Electric window options?

Subscribed.

I bought a kit when I had a truck but would rather adapt one from a latter model to make it work.

Re: Electric window options?

Hi Tim,
I went to Long Beach this morning and found a new in the box direct fit electric window kit along with the switches and wiring new in the box for $125.00. I could not pass it up. I plan to install in my Sub so I am now interested in the rear system.
