4 link / air bag question ????

Hello together,

at the moment i am doing my 4link installation at my 51 pu.

As you can see on the pic, i mounted the bags on the lower bars...to get a better lift.

So far so good, but i am unsure if the the lower bars will start twisting when the bags are pumped uped and the car is driving ...
cuz using some rod ends..so the bars are able to twist ???

I hope u understand my question ..sorry for my poor englisch i am from Germany...
Thanks
Achim

Re: 4 link / air bag question ????

If you have rod ends on both sides of the lower links then yes, they'll twist while you're driving. I'd suggest either moving the bags or making new lower links with a poly bushing on at least one side. I'd also recommend you weld the poly bushing mount to the link vs. Using one that threads into a tube adapter so it doesn't try to unscrew itself.

I do have these kind of rod ends:

Do you think with this kind of rod ends....its also can twist ????
May i can use some counter nuts or i do weld the rod end to the bar on one side ????

Thanks Achim

I agree, the best thing would to remove the front hime joint on tie lower bar and put a poly bushing.

I think those are better than heim joints...but I'd still be worried about the jam nuts working loose and allowing the link to rock from side to side.

Re: 4 link / air bag question ????

May be a common way of bagging one, but I'd never run anything on a bar...one screw-up and your butt is in the ditch. I saw a decent drag car blow out one tire, the destroyed tire also bent one of his 4-link bars and put him into the wall. You're going to be carrying the weight of the rear end PLUS weight shifted to the rear on launch on a bag that rests on a suspension bar. May be the way it's done, but it doesn't look safe to me.

Re: 4 link / air bag question ????

Hello,

here some informations from a professional builder, in total i build everything with strong metall and reinforced lower bars....
so i am pretty sure that this is one of the best setup with bags...
The poor handling with bags on the axle is well known.

Before the rebuild o a 4link setup, i did have air bag on the axle together with a leaf spring.....

So i am very curious to compare the ride with 4link..

So far i think i will change the front side to a poly pushings....

Maybe i get some more opinions and experiences on this thread

Thanks
AChim

I do think you'll like the poly links better, a lot less harsh.
Good luck, hope it goes together with less fight than all of my stuff

Re: 4 link / air bag question ????

just weld the poly bushing side up, as long as one side is welded it should be fine
