Looking for modern camper shells for 72 short step

I'm having my 72 Chev 4x4 short step restored and I'm thinking about camper shells if I can find one I like (gota keep them new bed boards purdy). I'm thinking moulded fibreglass with rounded edges to match the rounded body style of the 67/72's. One that is small in size and well built.

Does anybody know of any companies that make camper shells of this type that would fit a stock 72 short stepside bed? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

A tonneau cover would do the same thing as far as protecting the bed, or are you really set on having a camper shell?

I never have liked tonneau covers much, I used to have a fibreglass lid made by a company called Protect-top. Worked ok but was hard to get small things in and out. If I go with anything, I think it will be a small well made moulded fibreglass shell.

Thanks shortstep

Snug Top is the only one I know of that does a nice fiberglass topper (I have one on my Toyota 4x4). Not sure they make one your size, but wouldn't hurt to check to see if they do.
On my 1970 SWB 4x4 I have a Callen camper, which is one of the premium all steel construction campers out there. They make campers to order, but they are not fiberglass.

Re: Looking for modern camper shells for 72 short step

These folks have made top quality & beautiful truck shells for 30-plus years that I know of, & no doubt have a mold for making most anything you'd want. Over the years, I've bought 2 from them, & was very pleased.

They used to ship by their own truck carriers all over the US. Don't know about today, though.

Touch base with them.

Good luck in your search.

I have a soft cover on my Colorado, I really like it since it can easily be rolled up and has a low profile. But good luck with the search.

i'd take a tapemeasure and use it to write down the dimensions of your bed
then i'd go to camper supply places that carry toppers and start talking and looking

I agree with taking measurements. Then I would look at CL and see if any of the shells for small trucks are the right length/width for your stepper. You'll want to paint it to match or contrast anyway so a used one might make better sense.I see nice ones all the time for $100 ^ so fitment is really the only worry.

thanks for all the leads. I guess I'll need to take some measurements and make some calls to some of the dealers and manufacturers. Wish me luck.
