got bored

one of those days, I was lookin at my horn button and thought 'man...I should buy a new one of these...then again, what fun would buying something be?'

so, I grabbed my grinder and set off to pretty it up a bit. it was pitted more then anything I've seen, so I de-chromed/coppered it, painted a new black inlay and proceeded to polish the raw pot metal. after getting it to an acceptable shine I threw a coat of 'extra durable' clear powder coat on it. who thought pot metal could be so good looking? lol

Re: got bored

what I used was a roloc scotchbright disk on my grinder to take off the old chrome and copper(this seemed to work better then an actual grinder..seemed more gentle, yet effective). from there I took 80grit, then 180, 220, 320 on to 400 wet, then 600, 1000, 1500, 3000. now, at 3k grit paper it looked pretty damned good (actually all the way through I thought about stopping, it looked neat with the brushed look at each grit) I took rubbing compound after 3k and finished with a glazing compound (like for clear coat buffing). all this took about 1.5hrs, then powder coat(which was a whole other process). thanks for all the compliments!
