I drove mine from Beebe Ar to Biloxi MS (450 miles). Cruised at 80 mph and got about 16 mpg. I had no problems and I wouldnt hesitate to drive it anywhere.

I've driven mine from Minnesota to Colorado, Georgia, Arizona, Missouri and Tennesee with a trailer to pick up projects to work on. Right now I'm in Arkansas with it. I trust this truck far more than any newer vehicle. If something goes wrong with it I know I can get parts to fix it anywhere and it's simple enough that it can be fixed in a parking lot with basic tools. You'll never catch me doing anything like this with a vehicle with a computer in it.

lets see I drove my old 72 from MN to Louisiana, didn't quite make it...lost a rocker arm. Left it in a motel lot, fished my trip in a rental and the only reason I did that was because it was x-mas eve and I needed to get my wife home for x-mas. Bought the part, stoped and fixed it on the way back, drove it home.
My old 69 went from where I bought it in AZ to MN. was my daily in MN, drove it when I moved back to CA (replaced the rear shocks on the way), daily driver in CA until I sold it. these trucks are great, with a basic set of tools you can fix and or replace just about anything road side. All you need is just about any parts store. Hoping to get another burb soon........you guys want to pitch in??? $5.00 an active member will do it.......seriously....

Hey JayDubBlazer,
If you ever do this, and run into trouble up here give me a shout. I live in Fort St.John, BC which is mile 49 of the Alaska Highway. You will be driving right through here to head up to Alaska. Its a great drive.

Repo thanks, I will keep that in mind as I plan it. It is starting to look like a more deffinate thing. I've gotten two people as a deffinate possiblity to keep cost down. I think it will be cool as weel because it will be the bicentinial of Lewis and Clark expidition. I am checking into roadside campsite now. I don't want to do to much planning though, then it really wouldn't be a road trip.

Well all along the Alaska Highway there are campsites. Might want to check into them though as I know there are a ton of you Americans on that highway in the summer. I see dozens a day heading north.
I'm not sure if they get booked up or what. But again, there are tons of places to stop if you need to. Lots of rivers etc. |
