Gas door modification
Has anyone replaced the factory open design filler with a door type filler? If so are there any tips you have. I am replacing the fuel tank and would like to tackle this if its not too tough. Thanks

Re: Gas door modification
I have seen a few on here.
The only one that comes to mind is Frizzle Fry's shortened and slammed burb build. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...239896&page=19 Check out the thread, and see if he covers doing that bit.

Re: Gas door modification
It's been years since I did this but I got a door from the junk yard. I cut about 5 inches all the way around it and got the cable assembly also to open the door. I don't think I had to modify the filler tube. It fit behind the door.

Re: Gas door modification
Mine had a gas door on it when I bought it.....assumed it was factory...I did not see any signs of bodywork when I recently did the paint and body on the truck:

Re: Gas door modification
Thanks for all the help everyone. You have some nice looking burbs/tahoe. I ended up at a junkyard and they are pulling an late 90's S-10 Blazer door area with all the other items neck, brackets etc. Hope to get to it next week. Should look better since I have everything shaved.

Re: Gas door modification
I bought it like that....I wish I could figure out how it was done, so that I can undo it....I don't like it....makes the rear of the truck too flat....no relief to the eye....it even had steel tail light louvers that bolted on, and I really didn't like that....

Re: Gas door modification
I did mine using a Chevy Van flap and fill tube that I cut from a wrecking yard. I went through the process in my build thread.
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=397868&page=4 It starts on post 98, continues in 99 and finishes in post 101. ![]()

Love the paint dude.Been looking for some hot design for my panel. If don't mind I think we will take few ideas from yours and incorporate them into my colors ,bule with draker gray and some meganta and orange and yellow stripes around it. Kind of our funnycar colors toned down for street vehicle.Plus same colors as my new dragster it will be towing. |

Re: Gas door modification
Thanks for the kudo's. Here is a close up of the door. This thing had about 22 different paint tricks going on.
