Tailgate Band Questions

Are the tailgates that accept the tailgate bands different than the regular ones that don't? Does anyone have pictures of a tailgate made for a band without the band on it? I've heard mixed things, such as it's just a regular fleetside tailgate with two holes on each side, or it's completely different. I'd like to clear this up, because I have a really nice regular fleetside tailgate that I would like to put a tailgate band on. I need to know whether I need a whole tailgate with the band or just the band. Pics would be best. By the way, I'm talking 81-87 here. Thanks guys!

Steve

Re: Tailgate Band Questions

i dont have any pics but the tailgate bands that i have seen just bolt on. there is 2 or 3 bolts the go in from the back side of the tailgate. the one on my 75 is that way, but im not quite sure if they did it differently in the 80's.

Re: Tailgate Band Questions

I don't have any pics but the tailgate that my band came off of was a regular fleetside tailgate with 4 holes, even had the embossed GMC on it after I pulled the Chevorlet band off

Re: Tailgate Band Questions

The tailgates that came from the factory with a band had 4 predrilled holes that is the onlt difference. If you remove the band they even have the CHEVROLET or GMC logo embossed in the recess.

Re: Tailgate Band Questions

It looks like there is an inner piece to it, is that true? Thanks for the confirmation, this has been helpful so far. How does this all go together?
