whats muffers to go with
whats everyone running for exhaust? i know motor build makes a big difference, i noticed that when i put my new one in, over the stock 350.
right now i have a 350 with a mild cam 290dur .454" lift 110 lobe sep crane fireball II, performer intake and full length headers 2 1/2 inch duels with glass packs and turn downs. i like the way it sounds for the most part, sounds great when its wound up good, but i just want somthing different and dont kno wich way to go. i dont mind being loud and dont want quiet, but dont really like flowmaster 40's had them before like the down low sound on them but dont like the wooossshhh sound when when your standing on it, was thinking about mayber trying some super 10's but not sure, maybe some cherry bomb extremes, or even some spiral tecs by moroso. whats your opinions?

Re: whats muffers to go with
I had flowmaster 40's on mine and the drone was terrible. I switched over to some summit turbo mufflers. Mostly the same sound at idle but much nicer driving down the road. I still think I will put some tailpipes on it someday its still a little loud for my tastes now. Guess I'm getting old.....
Mine is a .060 over 350, flat top pistions, summit 234/234 cam, PJ noisy gear drive, rpm intake, 3/4 length chevelle headers to 2 1/2 duals and turn down before the axle.

Re: whats muffers to go with
I'm running Thrush Welded mufflers on mine and I love the sound. It sounds a lot more pissed off than a Flowmaster, and it's definitely not quiet. I'm running a mild 350 with long tube headers, and a 2.25" true dual setup. It sounds really nice.

Re: whats muffers to go with
The cherry bomb extremes have a nice sound to them on a 350 with cheap headers. I put 40 series on my 70, they suck. Too quiet. I prefer the extremes, 18 or 22 inch glasspacks, or straight pipes. All my vehicles are straight piped and have always been like that.
My 9 month old gmc has just cats, no mufflers with 5 inch echo tips. Its always deep and throaty with a very clean sound. Not like a raggedy ol truck like most people would think with straights. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: whats muffers to go with
well guys hate to say it but i just went ahead and had tail pipes put on it and kicked out behind the tires with the glass packs and it sounds pretty good for only spending $60. its different than it was, so i should be happy for a while lol.

Re: whats muffers to go with
X2 and for the price you cant beat em! I have them dumped under the bed. Makes my stock 305 tbi sound amazing. They SCREAM at WOT and sound way more pissed off than an overpriced flowmaster.

Re: whats muffers to go with
The engine makes a major. Difference as well.
We took two chamber flowmasters off my hot rodded 406 and put them behind a stock 454 it was almost quiet. And they where terriblely loud behind my 406. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: whats muffers to go with
I use long glass packs on a 350 with a mild cam, Stan's Header tri-wye headers in a true dual system with crossover ahead of the mufflers that exits behind the rear wheels.
The sound was real deep and throaty initially, but after 25 - 30 K miles, most of it towing a trailer the sound seems to be getting louder and more tinny. I was considering adding a turbo ahead of each glass pack to quiet things down a bit. Anyone heard of doing this? |

Re: whats muffers to go with
if you plan on driving the truck a lot stick with a muffler on the quiet side and install some electric cutouts you can crack them open for a "little" extra sound or wide open to piss off the people around you
I love the red light confrontations truck gos from just a little noise to open headers lol really freaks out the tunner guys |

Re: whats muffers to go with
How about some long smitty glasspacks on a stock sbc 350? I want them on my 67 chevy c10 longbed with 2 1/2 pipes duel going straight back or turn downs. Only if you guys know it will be good for a daily driver and not annoy myself and others. I had straight pipes on v8 and I do not want that sound anymore, I may have lost a little hearing. I want to do it right the first time. No need to waste money.

Re: whats muffers to go with
I have always been a fan of the bullet race mufflers by dynomax. I am not sure why, but I put 3" flowmaster 40's, dumped before the axles, on my '76 when I got the exhaust done last fall. It sounds good, but has a lot of drone and in my opinion is too loud for the street, it draws a lot of attention. I am thinking of switching it up a little in the springtime and running 3" with an x-pipe, back to bullets that will go all the way out the back. I'm just not sure how well it'll work.

Re: whats muffers to go with
Im almost certain the bullets will be louder than the 40's. Have a set on my 82 and it's crazy loud

Re: whats muffers to go with
right. i am hoping by getting it out the back of the truck it will help cool it some. I also feel like there is less drone with the bullets.
