Help With Paint Code

I have an all original 1967 GMC 3/4 ton LWB 2WD truck. It’s a plum color with a white top. I can't find the paint code online. I don't have pictures of the truck yet so any help would be great.

Re: Help With Paint Code

Is this the original color or a repaint?

I've heard the name Royal Plum Poly before, but not sure if it was used on trucks or not

Re: Help With Paint Code

Try this web site. This was given to me earlier this week when I had the same question. Pick your Make and year and it will show the colors available.

Re: Help With Paint Code

Still no luck. I know the truck is fully original and never repainted. The old man I bought it from talked about everything and every place that truck has been and done. He is the original owner and through the years whatever original piece he had to replace he saved and put them in the toolbox. I will have to get pictures this weekend. Thanks for everyone’s replies so far.

Re: Help With Paint Code

Ok the best answer I have found is that the truck is a Canadian paint code Plum Mist Metallic. I know the truck was purchased new in northern California and the old man went to damn near every dealership in California to find this color. Is there any possible way he bought a Canadian truck in the U.S.?

Re: Help With Paint Code

Have you looked at the paint code on the inside of the glove box door?

No the truck is out on my ranch and I only go out there on the weekends. I know that will answer my question but wanted to order paint before then.

Oh, that'll probably be your only way of getting it 100% correct, unless theres only one color purple for that year lol.

Re: Help With Paint Code

Plum Mist Metallic (paint code MM) is a 1966-67 car color. I suppose your GMC could have been special ordered this color. Other than that, I don't know what else to suggest.

I was finally able to get some pics of the truck. There is not a tag on the glove box door. Where else would I be able to track down the paint code?

Also got a pic of the door plate.

Re: Help With Paint Code

I think the real paint color is clearly shown in the door jam photo where it is protected from the elements and fading (and repainting). Or better yet, pull back the flooring and see what color the floor is. If it matches that shown in the door jam, I too think you've got 515 Vermillion.
Lighting can be so tricky in paint photo's for depth and shade.

Also, I think the outside has to be painted something different, as I don't believe that the color in the door jam would fade and discolor to the plum look in the other photograph. If that was a true plum paint job, that door jam would clearly be a dark plum purplish color and not so much towards the Vermillion color.

Being that yours was built at Freemont, Ca. That plant would generally stick the build sheet behind or under the seat springs. That should have the paint color on it as well. If it is present, it would probably be just fragments of paper at this point.

Attached are some Vermillion pics of various states. Hope it helps.

I will have to look under the seat but I doubt the paper will be intact. Can I get the original build info through GM? How else can I track down the original build sheet info.

Re: Help With Paint Code

As a former truck builder, I was a inspector at Pontiac East -where the standard & extended pickups were built. All of the paperwork that was attached to the truck as t went down the line was kept for 6 months per government regulations & then a BIG shreder would come on the property & shred all of that paperwork. There are different places were #'s are found as far as build dates for a truck, but your paint info. was put in 2 locations. Glovebox & the seat cushions rolled up. Sorry for bad news. Howard

Re: Help With Paint Code

I just about fell off my chair after seeing those build sheet pics as I didn't think you had a chance in heck of coming across that!

You got an answer alright, it's special paint used, now you have to out if it is special paint GMC offered or if maybe it was customer specified? Can't offer any suggestions there.

Usually special paint is option 4001 in the later years, yours says 570. Would 570 be the actual color code if someone had the correct manuals??? I dunno.

Here is a posting someone had for 1971 GMC special paint usage and the actual paint codes. IF, if you could just find this document or similar for 1967, if one existed then:

This is the multipage thread the above came from:

Re: Help With Paint Code

So would painting a GMC truck in Vermilion Poly be a "special color"?
