Front Disk Brake conversion

Wanting to convert my front setup to disk brakes with dropped spindles on my 70.

Was looking at McGaughy's or GMCPauls (I think from what I've heard here is that Paul's is McGaughy's and Paul's a good guy too).

Couple of questions though:
1) In the description of Paul's web, is states that this kit "Will not works with some stock drum brake rims" Any ideas as to what rims these are refering to. I don't have stocks (no sure what is) but I do have some Ralleys I got from Wheel Vintiques, that I painted.
2) I have a factory power booster. I noticed that a lot of people sell and install these kits with new boosters. Even the tech articles I've read in mags do new boosters. Am I okay with just the kit and a proportioning valve? Do they just do the new booster for the size, they look smaller?

I may be wrong here, but I think I read somewhere that there is one size of drum that it won't work on. (possibly 9 inch).

But like I said, I am not positive on that, but at least it may give you a starting point to do some searching.

The rims that won't work are the original stock wheels, 70 & before. Rallys will work fine. As for the power booster, I'm in the middle of my upgrade, and am using the original booster with a rebuilt master cylinder and new proportioning valve.

One thing to check for is on the calipers. Mine had tool marks (from a worn cutter) on the sealing surface for the bleeder screws. Found that this problem had occured in the past, but not for some time until mine. Wherever you order the kit from, have them inspect before they ship. The vendor is making this right with me, but it is a pain waiting another week for another set of calipers.

Glad to see my wheels will still work. Good I don't have to buy a new booster - I may later to clean up the firewall and go with the smaller one but the budget can't take the additonal cost.

Thanks for the look out on the calipers, I'll be sure they look at them and I'm going to take a good look before I sign off on them. Glad to hear the vendor is correcting. Good to know people make things right

Yup, most wheels will work fine. The only one I had that wouldn't clear the calipers was the stock spare wheel, and that one had a chunk of rubber on it that could only be vaguely referred to as a "tire" anyway...
