steering column
I am changing from a standard to an automatic on a 67, i was wondering if all trucks were wired for both from the factory and if not what will i need to get for the back up lights and neutral switch. I have not looked under the dash yet to see if there are different plug for wires. I am at work and just started thinking about this. Just curious.

Re: steering column
In looking at the wiring diagrams the only difference might be in the backup neutral safety switch. It's been many year since I converted my 69 to automatic by acquiring an automatic column but I don't remember having to rewire for the neutral safety switch so it may already be there on you standard column.
Personally I'd try to find an automatic column if you are going to go with the column shift. I see them on Craigs sometimes and you may want to look at the parts for sale site or post a want to buy. |

Re: steering column
My '70 was a floor shift originally, and my seller converted it to automatic. There was no wiring to the neutral safety / backup switch in the factory wire harness; so for the neutral safety all I did was pull the purple #12 wire off the ignition switch, run a jumper from the end of that wire to one of the switch terminals, and run another length of wire from the other switch terminal back to the ignition switch where the purple wire was plugged in.
Haven't done the back up lights yet, but it's along those same lines--just tap into the back up / reverse wire out to the lights... |
