Re: anyone bought a repo 67 68 steerign wheel?

I don't know anything about them. Didn't even realize they were being reproduced. But,You're doing the right thing by asking. I bought a reproduction 69-72 steering wheel before I joined this website,so I didn't have the advantage you have by asking. Four years after I bought it,in a truck with limited use, that thing split at high noon close to one inch. It's like the people who made it made sure I'd be reminded what a fool I was to buy such a p.o.s every time I get in the truck. All I know is the 67/68s hold up really well compared to the 69-72s and are worth restoring. Yours is the first one I've heard of coming apart like that.

Re: anyone bought a repo 67 68 steerign wheel?

Mine started as just cracks when it was my buddies but he picked at it and it broke away and now is a big long missing section. I will probably jsut repair my original. I dont want to chance wasting 210 bucks and redoing it again later. in 40 years most have just hairline cracked. that must mean something.

Most of the time your money is better spent on original parts. Factory wheels have lasted this long...I would repair an original or find a better one before I would buy a repop.

I don't know much about them but I do know the 69-72 were total junk when they first came out. Probably like the one special-k bought years ago. The new 69-72 are supposed to be alot better now.

I can't speak to the repop 67-68 wheels, but the repop 69-72 wheels are much more flimsy than the originals. You can grab the top and move it back and forth an inch or two. The originals maybe a quarter inch is all.

Re: anyone bought a repo 67 68 steerign wheel?

I bought mine in '04. You can see the rod in the rim is 1/2 the size of an original wheel. They saved $.50 just to make junk out of what is otherwise an excellent reproduction. I'd have to know the diameter of the rim stock, who made the old ones, who makes the new one,and how to tell them apart before buying "any" reproduction. I'll also wait and let time tell the story. I have a standard reply to any salesman claiming,"This will last forever"...We don't know that, yet.

Just my.02, find a used wheel and repair the cracks and voids with marglass & simply sand prime &paint. I made the mistake of purchasing a repro 70 wheel and its not what you would call stable. cheers,Pat

Re: anyone bought a repo 67 68 steerign wheel?

I bought one for my 70 a few years ago and it has held-up fine.
I tried to fix the old one with PQ7 and JB weld. I did use 're-bar'
to support the repair. The problem with this is that after about
6 month, it cracked again. I did a quick google search and found the
wheel you are looking cheaper at Classic Chevy. Other venders
probably also have it.

I bought a black 67 wheel 4 years ago no cracks yet. It does not feel the same as the stocker.
