72 Bucket seats question.

When I removed the bucket seats I noticed the underside of the seat was covered with a fabric and orange edge, is that covering stock? the Blazer was orange originally. Did Blazers come with orange seats or could be a previous re-cover?

Thank you

Re: 72 Bucket seats question.

I would say a previous recover. Are they seat warmers?

Re: 72 Bucket seats question.

That's not stock. As of early last year, my 72 still had it's original covers, and there was nothing like that underneath. I'd venture to say someone has played with the covers before. Simply because the material on the seats themselves is not original, they have been recovered in the past with some form of cloth (and the plastic backs are missing?), and that looks to be some sort of possible seat warmer underneath or maybe an attempt at covering the original foam and springs that are inside rather than using burlap.

You are correct, orange cloth inserts were available in 72 (mine has it) They call it a Highlander option according to the folks here.

Firebirdjones,
Did the seats on your Highlander have a cover on the underside seats?

Thanks

No sir, foam is exposed underneath. I saw no evidence of anything ever being there (no holes from hogrings or left over material)
So when I recovered them I left them as they were.

Re: 72 Bucket seats question.

Looks like either they uses material there to cover the ugly foam or possibly put a material in place of bad springs (many upholstery shops will do this and can be nicer than springs if installed correctly...

Well it looks like the orange upholstery material turned up to the under side of the seat, no heat warmers or springs modifications and the rear seat does not
have the covering. Did the orange Blazers come with anything other than black seats and black or white tops? Thanks 7D2N

Re: 72 Bucket seats question.

as mentioned, the seats originally wouldn't have had anything there. The covers only were clipped to the bottom frames on the outside as the covers you have on there are....

My factory orange blazer that also happens to be a CST/Highlander came with white vinyl seats with cloth orange inserts, and also has a white top.

It's my understanding that the cloth insert interior for the blazers (Highlander) was only available for the 72 model year and only came with white vinyl. You had your choice of cloth insert color. Orange was one of them. I believe blue was another. I can't remember them all but I think there were about 4 or 5 choices of cloth colors.
