Re: 4x4 s10 1/4 ton to a full size 4x4 1/2 ton
I guess what I'm saying is,in effect,a Dana 60 rear axle is lighter than a Dana 60 front axle because it is used as the primary axle. The front axle is an auxiliary axle only used "in addition to" the rear axle. So,as the "second" axle it is one tough sum*****. But alone it's not as strong as a 14-bolt,which is what GM used on trucks with Dana 60 front axles. Ever wonder why all 4wds come with a heavier rear axle than the front? I'm not saying you are wrong, and it's your truck to do what with you want. Just explaining some of the theory behind 4wd design to help you make the best decisions.

It'll work fine, that's for sure. The axles will exceed the size of the truck's limitations as far as towing/hauling goes. With 1/2t axles you'd have one stout hauler due to the lower net weight of the truck.
