A few questions...

I've been thinking about some things that could be an issue when I start working on my truck. First of all, if I do a 5/7 or 4/6 drop, will I run into any problems with my exhaust hitting the ground? I was thinking that if I did run into problems I could cut holes in my roll pan to give it a custom look.

And I was thinking about wheels too, the first ones I am going to use are some cheap old American Racing wheels my dad had left over from when he sold his 77, I got em out, cleaned them up and polished them yesterday and they look pretty nice, but eventually I want to get some nicer, bigger wheels. I was thinking about Torq Thrust IIs but I might want something bigger. I heard that n2trux had some Budniks for sale, how much would you want?

Let me know what your opinions and ideas are.

Thanks,
- Ben

And what kind of shocks do you usually run? Belltech?

The only exhaust issues you should have would be with your headers, I bought a set of shorties so I dont have to worry about that. I am running belltech shocks and think they work pretty well.

OK, and with your exhaust, do most of you use stock exit or rear exit?

Turn downs before the axle. Follow this link to a pic of my turn downs as well as clearance of full length headers with a 4/6 drop.

If you just stick w/manifolds you won't have clearance issues as long as your exhaust guy understands the need to keep it tucked closely to the frame. When you start upgrading the motor & need more breathing room, 3/4 length headers get the job done @ a slight sacrifice in low end grunt compared to full length headers. This is what I did w/my 74.... manifolds are fine for now. I also had my exhaust ran all the way back over the rear axle & then dumps & I have 3" of clearance w/a 5/7 drop (flip kit + shackles).

As for wheels, free is good! Steelies are always a good alternative when cleaned up & detailed. Do your homework on your wheel widths & tire sizes for the best 'look' & 'fit'.

Most of all....have fun.

OK, thanks for the help, and does anybody have a good pic of their truck w/a 4/6 or 5/7 drop that I could look at for reference?

Thanks for the help,
- Ben

Here's mine with a 4/6 drop.

BTW, I have my exhaust straight out the back. I run Edelbrock TES shorty headers.

Wow SCOTI, that is pretty much exactly how I want my truck, all stock trim, lowered 5/7, but all red. It looks nice. Like I said I think I'm leaning toward a 5/7 but maybe a 4/6..I don't know, I'd have to see one up close but I think lower is better. Nice trucks guys, and thanks for the pics.
