Rebuilding 5 slot ralleys

Well I picked up some 8" and 10" ralleys with some good BFG Radial T/A's. The wheels have some repop center caps and aluminum trim rings. They are powder coated the bright silver but spray painted white on the outside. I yanked the tires off and cleaned them up. Plans are to blast and re-powdercoat the wheels a gun metal grey instead of silver, smaller trim rings and rebuild and repaint the center caps. OEM ones are just to hard to find and too expensive to buy. On to some pics. These are just from this morning after work.

More pics when I get them coated and start working on the caps.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

Re: Rebuilding 5 slot ralleys

Thanks for the compliments guys! Do you think gun metal would look good on the 5 slot ralleys?

Dude, one of those tires shows some decent dry rot on the side.

Re: Rebuilding 5 slot ralleys

I showed my tire guy that rot and he said it was because someone rolled it once or twice while flat. We inspected the inside sidewall and he said it wouldn't concern him much. It might be a while before I roll these and might replace the rears.

Re: Rebuilding 5 slot ralleys

Well I dropped off the rims at the powder coating shop, chose a black chrome color. Looks like a metallic gun metal grey. Stopped by So-Cal speed shop and picked up my skinny stainless steel trim rings. Next is to restore the centers. Pics soon to follow!

Re: Rebuilding 5 slot ralleys

Well I had the wheels powder coated and im happy with the color. Turned out a bit darker on the wheel than the sample but im still happy. I mocked up one of the 8's to get a feel for the "chromed" cap and new trim rings. I basically soaked the caps in solvent and lightly scrubbed them with some 4 aught gauge steel wool. I had the guy powdercoat the back side of the rim a flat black to save him on some color. On to some pics!

Re: Rebuilding 5 slot ralleys

Im interested to see the front/rear tires remounted and side by side for comparison. I plan on running a 275/60 on 8 in rallys rear on my swb with a set of 6.5s up front, but I am undecided on front tire size. any help would be great. thanks
