Rear Tank Question
Considering a fuel injected engine. What have you guys come up with for using a rear mounted tank for fuel injection and what did you come up with for the filler tube? Has anyone used the stock in cab tank with a modified pick up tube with an in tank fuel pump?
Thanks, Kevin C |

Re: Rear Tank Question
I fabricated a stainless steel tank that I mounted under the bed. It's not anything special - I installed internal baffles and plumbed it for several return and vent ports. For filling, I had a locking door in one of the bed wood planks, but will probably have a hinge set up for the plank that the filler cap sits under. Here is a photo of my tank, and I use a MagnaFuel EFI pump for my current carbureted set up, but plan to eventually go to fuel injection. For the stock in-cab tank, you would at least need to install a bottom feed port and one or two large return ports, depending the pump and fuel injection system you use.

Re: Rear Tank Question
I used a blazer rear tank kit for my 66, tried to use a external fuel pump for my TBI engine and just had fits. finally changed over to the in tank fuel pump (robbing everything form my donor 91 burb. We have never looked back it works like a champ. Kieth
Look thru this build thread, we did a lot of modifications to make this tank work like we wanted it to. scroll through the next 15 pages of photos , click on the thumbnails and you will see how we did it. Re: Rear Tank Question
Thanks for your responses so far. I admire your abilities to fabricate. Very impressive. I'll look at your pictures when I get home.
Years ago I had a 1966 Chevelle. The license plate was on a hinged bracket. To fill the tank you flipped down the plate and the filler cap was right there. I thought this would be a slick way of doing it. I don't want to have the filler cap on the bed floor if I can help it. Has anyone attempted creating something like that? Kevin C

Re: Rear Tank Question
I didnt like the look or the fit of the blazer tank so I got a tank from a 87 or 88 work van. The van had a TBI motor in it so the sending unit was already setup for an intank pump. Its a 20 gallon tank. It hangs down about 7 in at the deepest point and the back of the tank tapers up, which makes it look nice from the back.
I had to trim the bottom part of my frame rails about 1/4 inch for it to fit. I also had to move the rear crossmember back a couple of inches. I took it to an old school radiator/ gastank shop and had them soldered up the orignial filler neck and soldered in a new one on the top so the filler hose goes between the top of the frame rail and the bed. Then cut a hole in it to add a 0-30 ohm sending unit (20 bucks) for our stock gauge. I then loaded it up with an ep381 gm high pressure pump and its been supplying my 5.3 without any issues for 4 yrs now. I havent seen anyone else run this tank But I think its one of the best options besides a custom one. Graham
