Re: wtb np833 shifter

I have heard that the Mopar shifter can be modded to work.
Are you 2wd or 4wd? the shifters are different.

I turned down 2 of those because they didn't have the shifters.

Re: wtb np833 shifter

2wd aluminum case. Is there a write up with instructions on how to do it? I might be able to rig up the shifter I do have with the help of my dad and some engineering. Its a hurst 4 speed shifter. Not sure what it came from. Was told my trans but linkages aren't long enough and bracket puts shifter in the wrong place. I also need to make sure the shift pattern is the same. I have looked at every pick n pull around me and called a million junk yards trying to find one. Guess they got popular a few years back now its almost impossible to find one without paying out the azz for it.

Re: wtb np833 shifter

IIRC try searching in the 73-87 or drivetrain forums, I think one of the memebers did this. This trans was also used in soome vans and Dodge trucks, IIRC he used one of their shifters. There were acouple threads on how the shifter worked, essentially it's a non-OD unit with one arm flipped.

It appears that the tailshaft is different on the GM units so Mopar units aren't a direct bolt in. My 2wd has the 'lighter' shifter, my 4wd has the 'heavy' rod shifter, and appears to set more ot the driver's side, probable to clear the tcase shifter. Anyways here's an interesting article.
