im doing the same thing..... heres what I found... Its best to find an 87 TBI system and grab EVERYTHING from the donor truck... the reason the 87 is desirable is they added the TBI as an add-on preparing fro 88's new body style so the harness/computer etc has its own seperate harness. I was planning on using an aftermarket 4bbl intake and making (i am a metals teacher) an adapter for the throtle body. you will also need an electric fuel pump unless you are going to retrofit a burb or blazer tank under the rear of the bed. I am planning on doing this to a 63 pu so I will have to add a return line from the TBI back to the tank... you should just be able to tie into your existing one. My only question yet is concerning the distributor and if there is a plug and play dist that can be used... not sure if the regular old HEI will work. Hopefully someone can answer that.... Hope that helps..

GM's TBI set-up has a specific distributor so you can't use the older HEI units.

OLD 6 cylinder HEI distributor will have to be modified. Modification is rather simple - remove and lock out vacuum advance and replace 4 pin ICM with a 7 pin module - part number AC-Delco (D1948, D1952, D1956, D1963A, D1968, D1973) GM (1988500, 1977907, 1978617, 1987714, 1976908) and many others. Over the years I found that late 80's front wheel drive Cadies equipped with 4.1/4.5L TBI engines use large style HEI hat distributor which can be the source of ICM and wire harness.

You can use 1227747 ECM from V6 application (4.3L) common across multiple platforms C/K trucks, minivans, etc. The 292 is only slightly larger than 4.3L V6 - the 45lb-hr injectors used in V6 application will work just fine. To get things going stock V6 calibration will be enough to fire the 292, but expect to spend time tuning ECM parameters to get best performance and economy. Check the TBI conversion thread. Hence, I see EPROM tuning in your future.
