Re: 56 gas filler pacth panel?
Take a piece of sheetmetal and cut it to fit. Little hammer work and it can be ready to weld in within 15 minutes. Beats waiting 4-5 days for it and paying to boot

Re: 56 gas filler pacth panel?
yeah really, if you can weld it in you can make a template out of poster board and cut a piece of metal with hand shears.

Re: 56 gas filler pacth panel?
to speed up work?? you could have the whole cab (including the firewall!) welded up, blocked out, and ready to spray before you got that little ole patch panel in the mail... To each his own

Re: 56 gas filler pacth panel?
I had a piece of my cab corner left over that had the right curve in it. 5 minutes with some left hand shears and it fit just right.

Re: 56 gas filler pacth panel?
This was a simple 45 min modification. I had a piece of scrap, bent it over a pipe slightly in 2 directions, traced it from the inside of the hole, snipped it, ground it, welded it.

Re: 56 gas filler pacth panel?
i guess i will give it a try. it just looked like it would be a pain becuase of the location it is in and the curves. i wont be doing the work on the cab for a few weeks. or working on the truck. my trade show season starts next weekend every weekend for 2 months

Re: 56 gas filler pacth panel?
My truck had that same dent under the gas tank opening, and I know how it got there. Lost my keys rafting in the sticks, easy enough to break in the truck and hot wired it, but had to pry off the locking gas cap to fill up to get home. Dent is from the lever point on the hammer I borrowed at the gas station.

Re: 56 gas filler pacth panel?
Yup, I know the piece could be made, but I am a mechanic, not a metal worker... the less I need to build the better, so I bought one of these patches from Infanti on eBay, and I am happy with it. Almost $20 shipped to the states, but I don't have to fight the harbor freight avaiation snips!
If I was a more seasoned metal worker I would build one in a heartbeat, but I am just not at that level yet! Thanks Gerry for bringing this simple product to market! |

Re: 56 gas filler pacth panel?
I am thinking about doing this and then relocating the tank under the bed. Instead of running the filler neck up into the bed, I am thinking about using the fold down license plate system like in the '60-'70s car. Being a Cameo, I will just put the tank where the spare tire holder is currently.
