Speedometer Tune-up
I just got a different speedometer assembly for the 64,
and was wondering.... What to lube the gears with? Fishing reel grease? Vasoline? Also, I see for some vehicles, new odometer decals are available. Are they for our trucks? I see Ecklers has them for the Chevy cars of that vintage, but would they be the same for the trucks? A lot of my numbers were gone, and after I picked it up, a bunch more crumbled to dust! Thanks for any help. |

Re: Speedometer Tune-up
I have used Classic Parts for years, they will definately have the decals for you. are you talking about the speedo itself or the gear for the trans?
Graphite for the speedo cable.

Re: Speedometer Tune-up
If you want to change or repair the gauge faces themselves this site has vinyl overlays for the gauges http://www.whitegauges.net/. If you need to repair the lens, which has the speedometer numbers, then you will need to replace the lens.

Re: Speedometer Tune-up
I was wondering about lube / grease for the speedometer / odometer gears, not the drive gear / cable at the tranny.
Also, I see Classic parts has a Speedometer decal set for the GM's, but not Chevy trucks. Not sure if the odometer tumbler wheels would be the same decals or not........ can't tell from their photo of the kit. |

Re: Speedometer Tune-up
Believe the "skeeters" froze last night, but it's warmed up nicely to 16 degrees now!
