Varnish on wood beds, how many coats under?

Hey guys, how many coats of varnish did you put on the back of the wood? I know a lot of you put 6-11,000 coats on the top... lol

But how many on th back side of the wood?

i recommend the same number of both sides.. same as outside furniture.. if the back can adsorb morns e humidity then the front, you get a bad warp.. bolted tight as the beds are, it shows up as a crack.. what are you using? i use the best clear deck sealer i can find.. follow the instructions and go at least three coats..all sides, including the ends

Thanks for the info.

I'm using Cabot Spar Varnish.
I was thinking 3 coats on back and sides would be enough to keep the moister out, with more coats on top for a shinny looks and UV protection.

I see your point, but do you think I would have that problem with 3 on the back and sides and 6ish on the front?
