What lift for 2008 Chevy 4x4 2500HD LONGBED? New to 4x4 diesels

What lift for 2008 Chevy 4x4 2500HD LONGBED? New to 4x4 diesels

Found a smoking deal on a 2008 Chevy crew cab 2500hd 4x4 6.6 Duramax 6 speed auto Allison transmission.

I won't buy it without getting a lift kit. I was thinking a 6" lift kit. I won't be getting into too rough of terrain. Mainly hillyred mud, rocks, mesquite and highway driving.

Would this be a good lift? What sizetirewould you suggest? Also will I get s major drop in fuel economy with a 6" liftand biggertires? New to 4x4 diesels. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Skyjacker, Fabtec and Superlift offer really nice kits. With a 6 inch kit you would be able to run 35's on that year of truck, as far as millage goes you can pick up a programer that will let you adjust the trans shifting points to handle the larger tire, the best way would be to regear the truck but that can get expencive.

Fabtech worth every penny I put a 6in on my 03 and run stock 3.73s and 35in all terrains but had trxus sts or whatever they are called, I'd leave gearing alone if it has 3.73s

Re: What lift for 2008 Chevy 4x4 2500HD LONGBED? New to 4x4 diesels

I dont really want to get a programmer. The engine and transmission come with a LIFETIME warranty. They said it is through another company and the warranty on the engine and transmission are good for as long as you own the vehicle. Of course they could go broke and not honor it but it is just an extra perk that comes along with buying the truck.

Would a 6" lift with 35" tires be too big for everyday use? Would a smaller lift be better?

Any help you guys could give me would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Re: What lift for 2008 Chevy 4x4 2500HD LONGBED? New to 4x4 diesels

The only lift I'd do is level it up. They sit nice with the snow plow package. IFS lifts do nothing for me since they are just high dollar spacers. They do nothing to improve suspension. On IFS trucks I like to get them up level with 285/75s. Anything more than that I'd do a solid axle/leaf spring swap. 4" looks good, just not worth it for what you get in my book.
If I had an '08 or newer GM truck I'd get the nose up level, then ditch that humongusoidian front bumper and put some sort of winch bumper on. The new truck bumpers hang lower than the rocker panels. That's what makes them look so low. I know it's some sort of federal standard thing, but screw that bumper...yuk!l:

Agree..I have a 2006 chevy crewcab 6.6 allison auto..I drove it stock for 4 years contimplating a lift...Last year I got a 2 1/2 inch level kit with an extra block for the rear.. 285/75/16 BFG and rock crawler beadlocks,,I also added billstein shocks..Love the look..I can still fit in underground parking and the local automatic car wash..Unless you do a solid axle in the front,,you are just doing a lift for looks...A solid front axle would be the only mod I would worry about...good luck..

Lifetime warranty? Ever hear the statement "if it's too good to be true it probably is"? I deal with extended/aftermarket warranties regularly and it's one of the biggest BS scams out there. They usually have a very narrow scope of coverage, while the slick marketing says we cover it all reality is opposite. The leagalese of the contract lists items covered and while the engine/trans may be covered, they only cover internally lubricated parts. Meaning, anything that bolts on or is electrical isn't covered. Injectors, pump and sensors not covered. The DPF on the exhaust system will NOT be covered, nor will the turbo. All bets are off too if you chip it in anyway as that's one of the first questions they ask a repair facility looking for authorization.

I'm not trying to discourage you on the truck, but be very weary of too good to be true warranties. Don't pay extra for the lifetime warranty without really going over all the details. My hunch is that warranty won't cover much at all.

As far as lifting the truck goes, be prepared to deal with some issues caused by tall lift kits on an IFS truck. Idler/pitman arms have issues with stock sized tires and no lift if they are hammered on. Upgrade if you have to lift it. I'd go with the other suggestions to level it.

Re: What lift for 2008 Chevy 4x4 2500HD LONGBED? New to 4x4 diesels

Regardless of what you do for a lift, you will need a programmer to adjust the speedometer to whatever non-standard tire size you have.

I agree with some of the other posters, the torsion key front and the lift block rear (I like the GM Z-71 blocks) along with longer Bilstein shocks. Personally, I like the rake of my truck the way it came from the factory is why I would go with the blocks in the back if you raise the front.

The truck at stock height will make your CV front shafts last the longest FWIW. On my own truck I just upped tire size to 265 70 17 and left everything else as is except for shocks. OEM shocks were lousy at best.

I am NOT a fan of a 6" lift to run 35's when you can do a torsion bar crank and run 33's. Not enough gain for a LOT of pain IMO. That and I just don't like the way the torsion bar drop bracket lift kits look.

Re: What lift for 2008 Chevy 4x4 2500HD LONGBED? New to 4x4 diesels

Dont crack ur torsion bars it makes the truck ride real rough. As for the cv shafts they will be fine with a 6in lift. I have a full 6in drop and they are at perfect angles. Over cracking ur torsion bars with a lift will make it ride real rough as well. I went from a leveling kit to a 6in lift and it was night and day on how good it rides. I'm running the mx6 pro comp shocks and 35x12.5x20 tires
