Door question

The rod that sticks out of the outside door handle is suppose to push the "flat" lever on the inside door latch mechanism in order for the door to open. Right now it doesn't push it far enough to open, it's about a 1/4" from pushing it enough. Is this rod suppose to touch that lever or should there be a space between the rod and latch lever? The door works as it's suppose to from the inside. Any thought on this? (That is if my ramblings make any sence to anyone...lol) I'm not sure why the rod would be too short now, it's not broken off and it worked before I had the outside door handle off to paint the truck.

Re: Door question

I completely understand your explanation. Perhaps the information in this thread might be of help. It deals with different length rods on each door handle. Is there a chance the door handle parts got switched side for side while they were off the truck?

Re: Door question

I know the handles were never disassembled, just taken off the truck and then put back on. Unless the PO put a (shorter) driver side shaft in the passenger handle at one time and the longer one in the driver side. But then the handle with the lock in it would have been on the passenger side, and don't remember seeing that. Hmmm...very confusing ! But the shaft length difference is good info, and has to be the reason why it's not working because it is 1/4 -3/8" too short. I guess when I get home from work I'll tear the drivers side off and check it.

Re: Door question

I had the same problem once, I just welded an extension on the pushrod.
