475 HP and 460ft lbs! with 6.0

Anyone know anything about this kit? Maybe in a few years I can save up enough for it. http://www.tpis.com/parts/view/149

What i really like about description is that its made for street (good idle and torque in useable rpm range)

Re: 475 HP and 460ft lbs! with 6.0

Hmm?.. Well. I bet the HP numbers they have posted are from a best case scenario (LQ9 6.0) This is a high compression (10:1) Cadillac 6.0 or VortecMAX in 2006. Stock it creates 345 hp (257 kW) and 380 ft•lbf (515 N•m). So this kit adds 80ft/lbs and 130 more HP. These numbers will be smaller in any other lower compression or displacement engine. The kit explains that you also have to add "A performance rear exhaust system" This will add another $500 to the $3100 the kit already costs. This will cost you $3600 so far and I bet it will not have all the gaskets and BS needed for the cam and exhaust swap. This puts you at $27.6 a HP and/or $45 a ft/lbs for each additional gain. This is not so great for the money IMHO. Look what HOT ROD mag did with $3252 http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/e...2/viewall.html
They went and bought a 5.3L gen III and Turbo charged it for 594HP 588 ft/lbs. You own your engine so you can deduct the cost of the engine. If you did this to a 6.0, the numbers would be well into the 600's. So ask yourself " What's not streetable about 600HP" Or you can de-tune it for the 475HP. If less is more what your looking for.

I don't doubt that kind of power number is capable. A little change can really wake these engines up. The price seems kind of high but you would have to add up all the parts and see where you end up. The one benefit is that these parts are supposed to be proven to work together.

Heck yeah! Turbo is the way to go but it's going to take a lot more work.

Good point but thats significantly more work, more time, also the tuning can be hard and you have the reliability of a chinese turbo to worry about. For me its more about torque anyways since my truck is used to tow. Thats what caught my eye about this kit is 460ft lbs. That and you can do it in a weekend. Good point on the escalade motor for stats, I'd want to see dyno proof on an LQ4 before I sprung for it.

Re: 475 HP and 460ft lbs! with 6.0

A Chines turbo wouldn’t be my choice as well. I would put more money into something more reliable. When I found that article I was actually trying to find something I had seen in Hotrod (but I forgot I read it in Hotrod). They wanted to see if they could destroy an LS by placing twin turbos on one and crank up the boost till it exploded. The motor was basically a used stock motor with a bad rust spot on one of the cylinder walls. After gaping some rings, They put it threw over 60 runs on the Dyno and cranked the boost to something like 26 psi with over 1200 HP produced. It never showed any signs of failure. The ignition couldn’t keep up with the boost but the engine was like “Is that all you got? Hit me again Ike!” They though that they had a 5.3L but it turned out to be only a 4.8L engine producing 1200HP, it’s crazy.
FOUND IT http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/h...g_bang_theory/

I understand that this is not what you are looking to build. But I had to share. It is just an example of cheap ungodly power. If I had the coin, I’d put something like this together but with a 6.0L . Then I’d put it in my 69 Camaro and rule the world. LOL, or not.
I did find another article you might like to see. ( Horsepower: Budget LS Bangs out Power - Episode 401) http://www.spike.com/full-episodes/2...eason-1-ep-401 They show a rundown on a cam swap in an LS. It looks easy. To get back to your original 475HP kit, I’d find out the cam specs and match it to a COMP cam or something. Then price the rest from Jegs. I bet you can build this kit for less than they offer the same parts. 3G seems allot for headers, cam, throttle body, cats and a powerchip. Or maybe not?

Re: 475 HP and 460ft lbs! with 6.0

so is it safe to say that the 4.8 can handle the hp gains too, since its basically the same as the 5.3 ? my brother in law has a '10 camaro with 425hp so i would love to make 450hp-500hp or so with my 4.8/turbo. just to one up him a little. i read the article how they thought it was a 5.3 at first too... i gotta say it sounds a little far fetched. but if its legit i would love to get that kit on mine.

Here is an example of what a 4.8 can do.

He is local to me and his truck halls! And it's a stock bottom end and heads.

Re: 475 HP and 460ft lbs! with 6.0

you could get a Lingenfelter LS3 with 560 HP.....
they used one in this:
http://48hourcamaro.com/category/build-details/engine/
this car has been next door to me for the last few months with my neighbor/buddy doing some fine tuning on it. It was just at SEMA and the Optima Invitational (autocross), it sounds just killer.
Tim
PS i just pulled up Lingenfelters' prices...whoooo nelly!
