ok, i have a 1972 chevy shortbox, and i have a set of c5 corvette rims, i want to use them on the truck, do i have to machine the wheels to fit the 5x5 bolt pattern, or what do i have to do to use them??? please help i really want to use them, they look sooo sweet when i set them up against the truck!!

You can purchase adapters to make the wheels fit. I'm betting you will need billit spacers to push the wheel out as well. I personally would not run spacers and adapters.

As long as everything is in good condition and the spacers are installed and torqued correctly, and your not offroading or jumping your truck,you should be fine to use spacers or adapters for normal street use. I would make it a point to periodicaly check them for damage and fatigue.
I think adapters and spacers have fallen into the "i wouldn't do it" syndrome much in the same way most people think of nitrous oxide on a vehicle, that we all remember the bad too easily and forget all the other people that have not had any problems. Everybody knows of a guy whose friend blew their motor up with the laughing gas and in reality more often that not the real problem was owner related (not setup right or the vehicle was in poor condition to start with). Just some food for thought.

Get a good quality set of adapter/spacers and you should have no prob. I ran a set of 92 wheels on my truck with 4.75 to 5 on 5 adapters with 2.5 spacing and they worked fine. Just get a quality brand!!

I am using a set of 96 Impala SS rims. I am trying to decide on tire size. I was thinking about late model Camaro SS rims

but didnt want to pay for spacers/adapters and have to remember to check for stress and fatigue...

I think you need to check the weight requirements on that wheel. I think your truck weighs a bit more than a vette.

You wont have any problems at all running an adaptor....a spacer might be a different story though. An adaptor will bolt on like your original wheel, and then the wheel will bolt to the adaptor. I had a set of adaptors on my V8 S10, and they held up fine. I did more than one 5 minute burnout, and drove that truck like a total retard, and never had 1 problem at all.

The only drawback is they are spendy. I know everyone hates AIM/chassistech, but they sell adaptors, and I think that that would be the place to get them. You need to space out the wheel anyway, and this would be the way to go.

i have those SS rims on my camaro, i could hold them up to the truck but it is down to the frame right now so you would see the body, sorry
