6.0L - th700r4

so I'm thinkin bout gettin a Lq9 6.0L from the wreckers, can I bolt my old 700r4 tranny up to the Ls motor?..and will it work?...or do I need to get the 4L60/4L80e? I'm new to the Ls swap scene, so any help would be really appreciated.

Re: 6.0L - th700r4

Yes you can, but you will need to run a cable type throttle body for the TV cable. If you buy a motor with DBW, you'll need to convert it to cable.

Re: 6.0L - th700r4

You can, but as mentioned you will need to do something about the TV cable, which will pretty much require swapping the DBW throttle body to a cable throttle body. Also you will need a 0.400" flexplate spacer to make up for the shorter crankshaft in the LS engines.

Yes you can. You need the TV cable set-up for drive by cable throttle bodies from bowtie overdrives. And you also need a crankshaft spacer.

most 03+ trucks got DBW, you can convert any LS a cable type TB by replacing the TB changing the wiring and a different computer tune.
If your engine had a 4l80e behind it(most likely), it will already have the spacer behind the flexplate.

He said LQ9, which will have the 4l65E, not the 4l80E, so no spacer.

Re: 6.0L - th700r4

sometimes yes, but because of the popularity of these swaps, complete packages can s actually cost more. If you know what parts your looking for, sometimes peice mealing them is cheaper.

Re: 6.0L - th700r4

oh, and the lq9 will smoke a stock 700r4 unless you are super easy on it. Guys get built ones that hold up, but at that point the money is better spent on a better trans to start.

Re: 6.0L - th700r4

....so I'll guess I'll go with my first plan and find a complete 6.0L/460le combo, and save myself some heartache down the road.....I found a bare bones 2000 5.3L dbc, but he wants too much money $1200....

if your buying them together, you can find the 6L with a 4l80e, but it will usually be a lq4. You can also find them with the 4l65e if your looking at a new enough motor.

Hello,

I know it's not exactly what you're looking for, but I completed an LQ4 swap backed by a 700R4 transmission on my '72 C10 this July. To cut down on my troubles, the donor vehicle for my LQ4 was an '06 3500 series Chevy Express van (read Pirate 4x4's LS Primer for more on donor engine specifics). By going this route the engine was: 1. relatively low miles at 60k, 2. set up for a cable throttle which substantially eliminated the TV cable problem, 3. came with a flex plate I easily modified to work with the 700R4 converter.

The dipstick tube and oil filler had to be modified but those were easy fixes. I also put a different power steering pump reservoir on since the van I got my engine from used hydra boost and I wanted an integrated reservoir--not too big a deal.

For the TV setup I used a kit from Bowtie Overdrives.

I don't know what shape your 700R4 is in so it's hard to say what might happen if you start romping on your truck after the swap (hard not to do). The Level 2 700R4 Bowtie Overdrives transmission I've got installed in my truck is doing quite well thus far.

The only other big item looming is the wiring harness modification. If you want a bunch of van LQ4 specific info to help you mod a harness to match the one I came up with which is working with no faults let me know and I'll send it along. There's no real cosmic differences between the van and truck harnesses that I noticed. Just a few things that are different and took a little additional research to pin down.

Best wishes,
Jake

I think I may have lost you. My swap involved a factory fuel injected 6.0L (LQ4) backed by a 700R4.
